How to Clean my Pillow

How to Clean my Pillow

Since I can remember (at least when it comes to doing things at home) I always took the pillows to the laundry. I'm not sure why, I guess because I lived with my parents and we had a small or custom washing machine - so I picked up this habit. The point is that washing pillows at home was impossible, they were very heavy for a common washing machine. However, as time went by, I discovered how to clean my pillow at home. Here's how to do it properly.

You'll need:
Steps to follow:
1

The first thing you have to do to clean your pillows at home is to pull the pillows out their cases, then you have to place the pillows so that they are balanced in the drum, this is very important because they should not bash against each other during the wash.

2

Remember that pillows are usually lightweight but can also absorb a lot of water and then become very heavy in the washer. Washing should be done with hot water and on a long cycle. Although you should always check the label on the pillows, you can always wash them at a moderate temperature using the cold wash option.

3

Once you have washed them, put the pillows in a place where the sun can get at them and - very important - on a surface that allows ventilation from all sides. You can, as pictured, put them them on a seat outdoors to ventilate properly. The "wring and squeeze" is also important and you will notice that the pillow filling is not "lumpy". If it is, try to separate it gently and return it to its natural state. Once dry, try to "hit" it with your hands.

4

It is likely that the filling, deep inside, is still wet, so it would be suitable to leave it to dry for a further 2 days. Now you can put the cover back on and then have some sweet dreams on squeaky clean pillows...
