Pets and young kids often do not know where to vomit. Sometimes, controlling a vomit becomes difficult for an adult too, as accidents can and do happen. Cleaning a vomit from a tiled or marbled floor is easy, but the task gets doubled if it happens to land on a carpet. Wear your protective clothes and gloves so that you do not stain your clothes as well in the process. Gloves will prevent the odor of vomit from getting on your hands
Ensure that the room is properly ventilated by opening all the doors and windows facing outside
Use a paper towel or a piece of cloth to remove any solid matter from the vomit and throw it in the bin. Do not wash these cloths in the washing machine, as the solid chunks may get stuck and cause further problems.
Use a scraper or any other flat headed object to scrape off any thick pieces from the carpet and throw them in the bin as well.
Sprinkle some absorbent substance in the area, like salt, baking powder, cornstarch, sand or carpet deodorizer, and leave for 15 minutes. This will help in lifting the vomit from the fibers of the carpet.
Use a vacuum cleaner to absorb the residue from the area.
Use a commercial stain remover or a carpet cleaner to treat the area. Make sure that the carpet cleaner you are using is safe for the fabric of your carpet, otherwise you will end up worsening the condition rather than solving it.
Blot away the stain using a damp and clean with a piece of cloth. Do not rub it, as it will further push the vomit into the fibers of the carpet. Rubbing will make the process of cleaning vomit from the carpet twice as difficult. Do not use a paper towel as it will disintegrate and make more of a mess.
Let the area dry overnight naturally.

The stained carpet area can be deep cleaned by using a steam cleaner. Steam is very effective in killing bacteria and germs that are responsible for causing bad odors. But sometimes, high temperature can cause damage to your carpet’s delicate fibers. So before steam cleaning, check if your carpet is safe for steam cleaning or not. Also follow your user’s manual to steam clean in a proper and effective manner.
Use some disinfectant to treat the stained carpet area so that you can be sure that all bacteria and germs have been removed completely.
Use a commercial grade carpet deodorant to spray the dirty carpet area. You can also combine water with a few drops of citrus oil, tea tree oil or lavender oil to remove any lingering odor from the carpet.
If you follow these instructions properly, you will end up cleaning vomit completely from your carpet, and having a fresh and clean fabric once again.
