1

Our first proposal to decorate a bedroom with recycled materials is quite simple to make, and it's perfect to have affordable yet stylish shelves in your room in which to keep and show off your books, framed photos or simply to decorate the wall. It's about re-using fruit boxes. You will easily find these at markets or greengrocers, and using them when you buy fruit in bulk is a great way to have more sustainable eating habits.

First of all, cleanse the fruit boxes thoroughly and give them a fresh coat of paint. In case you want to keep the natural colour, it is best to opt for a neutral varnish layer to improve the box's original appearance and to make it look brighter.

The rest is easy. Once you have all the fruit boxes fixed, decide on an amount and a position and attach them to the wall with screws. It will look great!

Now let's propose a decorative detail that will seamlessly fit into your room and for which you only need three things: Clothespins, a can of tuna and small candles. This way, you will have a beautiful homemade eco-friendly candle holder. It will shine anywhere giving your room a completely unique look.

Before you start making any craft with recycled materials, it is important that you clean the original container thoroughly. In this case, a tuna can could have fish bits and oil, which you need to remove completely. Then you only have to attach the clothes pegs around the edge of the can and, when ready, place the candle inside.

If you want to create a super original shelf with recycled materials for your bedroom, you only have to take a ladder you no longer use. On the steps you can place the books well and have a completely different look. A ladder book shelf looks good with any kind of décor, and gives a home a vintage, eclectic touch.

To make this piece of furniture, you'll have to give the old ladder a coat of varnish or paint so that it has a nicer appearance. Then you only have to nail it to the wall horizontally and also to the ground and leave a spacing from the wall so that the books can stand up and not fall down. If you have more than one ladder, you can make a shelf corner as you see in the picture.

An alternative way you can recycle an old ladder is to create a stand for plants in your garden or balcony.

If you want a bedside table that is fits your bedroom and is eco-friendly, you'll have to make use of an old tire. This craft is much more complicated than the previous ones because it requires prior knowledge of some aspects of building, as you'll have to attach the legs to the tire's underside.

To make a bedside table with recycled materials like you can see in the image you will need rope, cardboard or cork, a drill and glue. Cover the wheel and add the rope with nails to keep it immobile. Once you're ready, attach the legs and test it can hold up some weight. Done - a unique and customizable bedside table!

You can simply place them on your desk or, if you prefer, you can do the same as in the picture and hang them on the wall.
