The smell of gas easily sticks to the fabrics and clothes as it is a very intense and penetrating smell that does not go unnoticed. If you work as a mechanic, at a petrol station or had some bad luck and your clothes got dirty with diesel and now give off a very unpleasant smell this oneHOWTO article may be of help to you. We show you a series of tips that will help you get gas smell out of clothes, it will not be a complicated task. Take note and see for yourself if they work.

Steps to follow:

1

Wash alone. Before showing you some tricks to get gas smell out of clothes it is important to note that the affected item will first need to be washed alone, not in conjunction with other pieces of clothing. Otherwise the other clothes could also get that nasty diesel smell. For this same reason it is not advisable to leave the smelly clothing in the laundry bin with the rest of clothes that have accumulated for washing; keep it separate and do not take too long to tackle the smell as passing time may make it more difficult to remove.

2

Use baby oil. There are some natural products that are equally or more effective than commercial detergents or softeners to eliminate strong and intense odors from clothes, such as gasoline. One that offers great results is baby oil, so do not hesitate to try it out. You can simply add some baby oil to the washing machine and let it permeate the garment for several minutes. Before starting the next phase of washing add detergent and then wait until the wash cycle is complete. Finally, remove the clothing from the washer and hang it to air dry, it is preferable that it be exposed to the sun if possible.

Leave detergent overnight. If the above method is not sufficient to eliminate the smell from the garment or the gas stain is localized, i.e in just one area, then you better opt for the following procedure. Also using baby oil, apply a good amount of product on the area to be treated and allow the fabric to absorb it for a few minutes. Next put the clothes to soak in a mixture of water and detergent and leave it overnight. The next morning, drain the garment and do a normal machine wash, albeit without mixing the stained clothing with other garments.

4

Use white vinegar. Other than baby oil you can make use of other products to remove the smell of gasoline from clothing, such as white vinegar. This is very powerful in neutralizing odors on clothes, also making it a perfect partner to remove the smell of sweat from t-shirts or shirts. You mix equal parts white vinegar and water in a spray bottle and spray onto the fabric, then let the garment air dry. When dry wash as you normal and ready!

This can be used in different ways, but when the smell is as strong as that of gasoline it is best to do as we detail below. Fill a large bowl with water (so that the garment can be completely submerged) and add 2 or 3 tablespoons of baking powder. Mix and put the garment in question in to soak overnight.
