Try ecological detergents and make hygiene a priority in your home. To make this recipe, you will only need three basic ingredients: a bar of soap, warm water and bicarbonate of soda. Think green and create your own detergent at home. It only takes 15 minutes!

You'll need:
  • If you want to eliminate stains, we recommend applying bicarbonate of soda and vinegar directly on the stain before washing.
Steps to follow:
1

To make a good laundry detergent we recommend using a household soap type such as Marseille soap. This is ideal because of the softness and aroma that it will leave your clothes. 75 grams (2.6oz) will be enough. Also, you'll need a glass of bicarbonate of soda and half a litre of water. To add a particular scent, you can use essential oils with any smell: lemon, orange, peppermint, grapefruit...

2

Make soap shavings. To get quick shavings you can use a food processor. If you do not have one, do it by hand using a conventional grater. To do so, grate the whole piece of soap. It will take a bit longer but you'll get the same result.

3

Once you have grated the soap, place it in a closed container or bottle, and add the cup of bicarbonate of soda. When you have both, slowly add a litre of water. Do it carefully and very slowly, because the bicarbonate reacts by foaming so it might spill.

4

Close the bottle with the three basic ingredients inside. The elements should be dissolved in order to obtain household detergent, so to save time, shake the bottle vigorously to mix well.

5

Once the ingredients are mixed and dissolved, just add a pint of hot water. Also, it's time to add a few drops of essential oil. Choose the one you like most, so that your clothes give off a unique aroma.

6

Detergents (whether to clean clothes or other parts of the home) usually take a few drops of essential oils that give off good smell and also help clean and disinfect better. These are the most recommended:

  • Citrus: lemon, tangerine or orange are perfect to disinfect and clean thoroughly. They are also useful to eliminate grease stains. Also, they leave a delicious aroma.
  • Lavender, jasmine and eucalyptus: these three flavours give freshness to the clothes and help eliminate germs.
  • Tea tree: is an ideal essential oil to combat fungi.
7

And that's it! You've got your own homemade detergent. To get the right texture for laundry, you should leave the mixture for a week or so. Make your own, ecological and hypo-allergenic clothes detergent quickly and easily and discover its many advantages.
