The first step to softening at home consists of mixing 2 parts water with 1 part white vinegar.

Add one part baking soda or sodium bicarbonate very slowly. Sodium bicarbonate froths up when added to the mixture and will form a thick foam. The faster you add it, the more foam will form which is why baking soda has many household uses.

Mix it until all ingredients are well mixed together.

The homemade softener is now ready. But, if in addition to softness, you want to add a little fragrance to your clothes, now you can add a drop of your favourite essential oil .
