Coffee residue, water mineral deposits and other nasty things can build up in your coffee maker over time. These not only impair your machine’s drip operation and affect your coffee’s taste, but also make your beverage unhealthy and unhygienic.

Although mineral deposit removers and coffee maker cleaners are easily available in the market, you can clean it using water and vinegar solution at home. We have already told you how to clean the washing machine with white vinegar. Here at OneHowTo.com, we are going to tell you how do you clean a coffee maker with vinegar.

Steps to follow:
1

First, you need to fully empty the coffee maker, rinse its carafe, and make sure that its filter compartment is empty and properly set. Remove the water filter and permanent coffee filter from the brewer, if your model has these.

2

Mix 3 cups of white vinegar with 6 cups of water, and mix the two together well.

3

Fill your coffee maker’s water reservoir with this vinegar and water solution, and run it through its drip cycle or cleaning program if your machine has one of these.

4

Once the cycle has finished, turn the machine off, and allow the solution to sit inside for 10-15 minutes. This will remove any accumulated scale deposits. Now open the coffee maker and discard the vinegar solution.

5

Now run clear water without vinegar through the machine, allow it to cool down, and repeat. By doing this, any remaining vinegar residue will be removed from the coffee maker. You may want to do this several times to completely eliminate the taste and smell left by the vinegar.

6

Once you have cleaned the inside of the machine, you should thoroughly wipe its exterior too, including the carafe, permanent filter and the filter basket. You can do this with warm soapy water. If possible, you can also considering replacing the water filter. Now your coffee machine will be free of limescale and grease and ready to use once more.
