Blood stains on clothes should be cleaned as soon as possible, as the longer you take to do so and the drier they are, the more difficult they will be to remove. Take into account that blood stains dissolve with cold water easily and that, therefore, the first thing to do is to leave the garment to soak in abundant cold water for a few hours so that the dried blood will disintegrate. It is essential that you do not do this with hot water, because the heat, on the contrary, stain sticks much more to the fabric.

The next step to remove dry blood stains from clothes is to apply a spoonful of liquid detergent directly onto the dried blood stain and allow its components to act on the garment for at least 15 minutes. After that time, pick up a soft bristle brush and rub vigorously with circular motions and rinse the garment with cold water again.

Then you can wash the garment in the washing machine as you normally do. Do not forget to check your label beforehand to see the symbols that are specified to wash it correctly and prevent it from being damaged.

If the above method has not completely removed this resistant dry blood stain, you can test some of the solutions that we show you below. A fairly effective way is to use a mixture of ammonia and water, as this usually removes the most complicated stains. Of course, you should avoid this method if your stained garment is made of very delicate materia, such as silk or wool.

Just pour 1 tablespoon of ammonia into 1 cup of water, stir and apply the mixture over the dry blood. Allow it to penetrate for 5 minutes and then rinse with cold water while rubbing the stained area with your hand with a little liquid detergent. This preparation can also be used to remove blood stains from other surfaces such as carpets and mats.

Another product that equally is useful to remove dry blood stains from clothes is hydrogen peroxide water, which will be especially useful for light colored garments. First, let the garment soak for two hours in a bowl of cold water and, after that time, apply a few drops of hydrogen peroxide directly on the stain and let it act for a few minutes. You will see that the hydrogen peroxide is taking effect and disintegrating the blood on the fabric when bubbles start to appear on the stain.
